continuous improvement and Lean strategy is a critical element for
building and sustaining a world-class transit agency. A constant,
data-driven focus on increasing organizational productivity while
maintaining a reliable, quality, and safe service is paramount to
the MBTA's success. To achieve these ends, the MBTA has launched an
organizational-wide Lean effort and is looking for a Director of
Lean Strategy to lead the Lean Strategy team and to ensure the
effort becomes a part of the organization's DNA. This position will
report to the Senior Director of Lean Strategy & Operations
Analytics and will be responsible implementing Lean strategy by
managing Lean Strategy department's staff, completing Lean
projects, assisting operational leadership in implementing Lean
initiatives, and leading Lean Six Sigma training efforts across the
organization.Furthermore, to ensure the MBTA is staying on top of
the latest trends, both in transit and other related industries, it
will be critical that this position maintains a strong working
relationship internally within the MBTA and externally in the
transportation and continuous improvement/Lean sectors.Duties &
ResponsibilitiesPrincipal Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversee Lean
Strategy department and all its related initiativesManage Deputy
Directors of Lean Analytics including development of individual
goals/KPIs, strategic project management, evaluation of
performance, and professional developmentPartner with department
heads across both the operations and administrative segments of the
MBTA to drive safety, quality, and efficiency initiatives across
the organization.Analyze departmental performance to develop key
performance indicators (KPIs), benchmark performance, and identify
Lean initiatives to assist in achieving agency goals.Map key
business processes and identify policies, procedures and business
practices that can be improved, simplified, and optimized.Work with
the training department and external vendors to provide training to
all levels of the organization on the use and practice of Lean Six
Sigma methodology and tools.Support Lean Liaisons or similar Lean
Champions on their individual projects, and ensure any new projects
selected relate to department's strategic goals.Identify and help
scope strategic sourcing opportunities and manage associated
contracts or vendor relationships.Lead internal communication
strategy for the Lean Strategy department by developing internal
resources to help employees learn about training opportunities,
familiarize themselves with Lean Six Sigma tools, and share
experiences/learnings.Model a Lean culture of continuous
improvement by building cross-functional teams consisting of
employees at all levels of the organization and encouraging open
communication and collaboration on Lean initiatives.Work with key
stakeholders and cross-functional teams to design, implement, and
track the impact of Lean initiatives using the DMAIC process
improvement model including identifying opportunities, implementing
solutions, and sustaining change through development to dashboards
and metrics.Develop and execute both high-level and detailed
analytics and descriptive statistics in low-data environments,
and/or guide Lean Analytics team in performing similar
analysis.Participate in the development of department goals and
identification of critical areas for improvement throughout the
organization.Develop robust working relationships with diverse set
of internal MBTA and external stakeholders.Participate in team
meetings, staff meetings, organization events and other duties as
necessary.Respond to customer, vendor, and coworker inquiries in a

EducationBachelor's degree from an accredited institution.Minimum

part-time, or a combination, experience in quantitative analysis,
operations, manufacturing, project management, or related
fields.Five (5) year's leadership people management or large
projectsHighly organized with ability to manage time, resources,
and people, with an exceptional ability to handle multiple projects
simultaneously.Excellent communication, analytical, and
presentation skills with ability to obtain buy-in with key
stakeholders at all levels of the organization and influence their
decision-making.Ability to conduct program analysis, identify Key
Performance Indicators, and build management
dashboards.Demonstrated data-driven decision-making skills and a
willingness to make test-and-learn hypotheses.Ability to learn
quickly, take direction, and work independently and to use
creative, collaborative, and consultative approaches to resolve
issues.Experience packaging complex projects for executive-level or
similar presentations.Have excellent customer service skills, and
the ability to provide internal and external customers with a
courteous and professional experience.Advanced expertise in MS
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Demonstrated ability to think
