Department Description: Affiliated with the world-famous Joslin
Diabetes Center, specialists in our program provide treatment for
adult diabetes, nutrition counseling, and patient education. Our
outpatient clinic makes it convenient for patients to receive
specialized care for diabetes and laboratory services all in one
location. Our center is located less than a mile from Beth Israel
Deaconess Hospital-Needham at 145 Rosemary Street in Needham. This
gives patients easy access to hospital-based services at BID
Needham and, when needed, a quick referral to Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center in Boston. For more than two decades, patients with
diabetes have received quality care at the Joslin Diabetes Center
Needham. Affiliated with the world-renowned Joslin Diabetes Center
in Boston, our Center provides comprehensive evaluation and
treatment of diabetes, including education for insulin pump
therapy. The American Diabetes Association has recognized the
Joslin Diabetes Center Needham for meeting the national standards
for diabetes self-management education.Job Location: Needham,
MassachusettsReq ID: 43630BRJob Summary: Assists with the patient
assessment, preparing patient for clinic visit and ensuring the
highest quality of care for patients seen in the clinic through
support of the clinic staff.Essential Responsibilities:Obtain
patient's most recent labs and medical records from PCP and/or
Careweb for upcoming appointments.Obtain necessary referrals from
physicians' offices prior to appointment.Register all new patients
in both NextGen and Meditech and schedule all patient appointments
in both Meditech and NextGen systems.Conduct assessment of patient
prior to provider appointment including vital signs, blood sugar,
body weight, A1c and medication history all to be documented in the
EMR.Promptly initiate treatment for hypoglycemia using 'Rule of 15'
when patient's blood sugar under 70 while at clinic.Problem-solve
patient issues such as referrals, appointments, and insurance
initiating a prior authorization as needed.Check prescription line
throughout the day and send refills for test strips, pen needles or
syringes. Send timely communication to provider for medication
renewals.Upload all glucose meters, insulin pumps and continuous
glucose monitoring devices from receiver or the cloud to produce a
report for provider appointment.Collects specimens with universal
precautions using the correct collection containers, labeling
properly and correctly handling before transportation to hospital
laboratory.Follows all procedures and protocols for blood
collection of clinic patients using proper safety and infection
control procedures.Required Qualifications:High School diploma or
GED required.Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate
preferred., and Certificate 2 Basic Life Support required.0-1 years
related work experience required.Ability to read and interpret
documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine
reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate with
patients and families, clinicians, clinic team and the
community.Experience with computer systems required, including web
based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may
include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.Preferred
Qualifications:AHA BLS Certification or equivalent.Experience in
Phlebotomy.Competencies:Decision Making: Ability to make decisions

must be competent to provide patient care to the following age
groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years,

.Physical Nature of the Job:Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds
of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is
physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing
and/or moving.
