A talent acquisition caregiver will provide more details into the sign on bonus during the interview process.Position Summary:This position is responsible for providing all aspects of respiratory therapy in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Respiratory Care Department. Works with considerable independence to perform routine and complex patient care in all assigned areas. The respiratory therapist provides evidence based patient focused care in a collaborative environment.Position Qualifications:The Respiratory Therapist must possess the ability to assess patients and make appropriate therapeutic recommendations along the continuum of care from admission to discharge including all aspects of respiratory care from floor therapies to mechanical ventilation and blood gas interpretation. Also, the ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.EDUCATION:Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy preferred.EXPERIENCE:Minimum of 6 months acute care experience preferred, new graduates welcome to apply.LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC. :Current Massachusetts State LicensureRegistered Respiratory Therapist preferredBasic Life Support requiredAdvanced Cardiac Life Support preferred (required for some positions within 6 months of employment)Neonatal Resuscitation Provider preferredPediatric Advanced Life Support preferredMajor Responsibilities:Work as part of a team to ensure optimal patient care.Reviews patients electronic medical record for appropriate history, reason for admission, pertinent laboratory/radiological data, current orders.Administers aerosolized medications.Draws and analyzes Arterial Blood Gases. Reports Critical Values per hospital policy.Consults with physician staff concerning the most efficacious forms of therapy, and makes recommendations to enhance patient care (such as type, method, duration of therapy, suggested medications/dosages) compatible with physician orders and communicates these effectively with appropriate members of the healthcare team.Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy (such as vital signs, arterial blood gases), and consults with physician if adverse reactions occur.Provide emergency care including assisting with intubation, Rapid Response Team, High Risk Delivery and Code Team.Inspect, test, clean and maintain respiratory therapy equipment as per department policy.Demonstrate and instruct respiratory care procedures to new staff, other healthcare personnel, patients, and patient's families.Provides clinical and general guidance to new, agency, per diem, and student therapy personnel.Provides direct supervision for respiratory therapy students.Set up and operate devices such as basic oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilators, CPAP/Bi-level support, NIPPV, high flow oxygen therapy in accordance with department policy and procedures.Maintains all necessary patient and department records on the electronic medical record and medical administration record. Follows hospital policy/procedure regarding patient medication administration.Participates in departmental quality assurance programs.Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current techniques, developments, and issues in respiratory care through attendance at educational meetings, lectures, and conferences.Skills will be reviewed in annual performance appraisal.Provides verbal report including diagnosis, significant past medical history, reason(s) for admission, treatment goals and plans, patient's response to treatment, and suggestions to optimize patient's treatment plan.Meets established productivity standards.Facilitates and promotes the sharing of knowledge and content throughout departments.Takes responsibility for ensuring that all work outcomes satisfy the UMass Memorial Health System True North.The individual must support the mission, vision, and goals of HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital and serve as a role model for CARES values.Adheres to change control processes.Participates in cross training to optimize department resources.Demonstrates excellent attendance and actively participates in a variety of meetings and training sessions as required.Demonstrates a friendly, responsive, service-minded attitude to all internal and external customers.Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors -Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.All responsibilities are essential job functions.
