Job Opening- Leominster City Clerks OfficeFull Time Principal ClerkSalary - $39,677
Essential FunctionsThe essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. An employee in this position will be responsible for answering telephone calls and directing customers.
The Principal Clerk position is responsible for the recording and issuing of birth, and death certificates through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts VIP System. This individual is responsible for the correction of vital records in accordance with regulations set forth by the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics. Taking marriage license applications, typing licenses and reporting monthly to the state is also a requirement.
This individual is also responsible for the daily reconciliation of cash, checks and debit/credit card payments with weekly turnover to the Treasurer's Office. Working with customers over the counter with dog licenses, vital records, registering voters, business certificates, Raffle and Bazar Permits on a daily basis. Yearly issuance of flammable storage permits and keeper of these records in conjunction with Fire Prevention.
Any and all other duties as assigned.
SupervisionWorks under the general supervision of the City Clerk, following department rules, regulations and policies, requiring the ability to plan and perform operations, and to independently complete assigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule.
Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in responding to inquiries, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed under typical office conditions; work environment is moderately quiet.
The employee operates standard office equipment.
The employee has frequent contact with the general public, other city departments, including the state and federal offices. Contact is by telephone, in person and in writing.
The employee has access to department-related confidential information.
